Proverbs 8

CEB

10 Take my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 Wisdom is better than pearls; nothing is more delightful than she.

17 I love those who love me; those who seek me will find me.

19 My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold;

my crops are better than choice silver.

CEV

1 With great understanding, Wisdom is calling out.

4 “I am calling out to each one of you!

5 Good sense and sound judgment can be yours.

6 Listen, because what I say is worthwhile and right.

7 I always speak the truth and refuse to tell a lie.

8 Every word I speak is honest, not one is misleading or deceptive.

9 “If you have understanding, you will see that my words

are just what you need.

10 Let instruction and knowledge mean more to you

than silver or the finest gold.

11 Wisdom is worth much more than precious jewels

or anything else you desire.”

12 I am Wisdom—Common Sense is my closest friend;

I possess knowledge and sound judgment.

17 I love everyone who loves me, and I will be found by all

who honestly search.

19 What you receive from me is more valuable

than even the finest gold or the purest silver.

20 I always do what is right,

21 and I give great riches to everyone who loves me.

32 Pay attention, my children! Follow my advice, and you will be happy.

33 Listen carefully to my instructions, and you will be wise.

34 Come to my home each day and listen to me. You will find happiness.

35 By finding me, you find life and the Lord will be pleased with you.

GNT

1 Listen! Wisdom is calling out. Reason is making herself heard.

2 On the hilltops near the road and at the crossroads she stands.

3 At the entrance to the city, beside the gates, she calls:

4 “I appeal to all of you; I call to everyone on earth.

5 Are you immature? Learn to be mature.

Are you foolish? Learn to have sense.

6 Listen to my excellent words; all I tell you is right.

7 What I say is the truth; lies are hateful to me.

8 Everything I say is true; nothing is false or misleading.

9 To those with insight, it is all clear; to the well-informed, it is all plain.

10 Choose my instruction instead of silver; choose knowledge rather than the finest gold.

11 “I am Wisdom, I am better than jewels; nothing you want can compare with me.

12 I am Wisdom, and I have insight; I have knowledge and sound judgment.

13 To honor the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil ways and false words.

14 I make plans and carry them out. I have understanding, and I am strong.

17 I love those who love me; whoever looks for me can find me.

19 What you get from me is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver.

20 I walk the way of righteousness; I follow the paths of justice,

22 “The Lord created me first of all, the first of his works, long ago.

23 I was made in the very beginning, at the first, before the world began.

24 I was born before the oceans, when there were no springs of water.

25 I was born before the mountains, before the hills were set in place,

26 before God made the earth and its fields or even the first handful of soil.

27 I was there when he set the sky in place, when he stretched the horizon across the ocean,

28 when he placed the clouds in the sky, when he opened the springs of the ocean

29 and ordered the waters of the sea to rise no further than he said.

I was there when he laid the earth's foundations.

30 I was beside him like an architect, I was his daily source of joy,

always happy in his presence—

31 happy with the world and pleased with the human race.

32 “Now, young people, listen to me. Do as I say, and you will be happy.

33 Listen to what you are taught. Be wise; do not neglect it.

34 Those who listen to me will be happy — those who stay at my door every day,

waiting at the entrance to my home.

35 Those who find me find life, and the Lord will be pleased with them.

NIRV

Doesn’t wisdom call out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice?

2 At the highest point along the way, she takes her place where the paths meet.

3 Beside the gate leading into the city, she cries out at the entrance. She says,

4 “People, I call out to you. I raise my voice to all human beings.

5 You who are childish, get some good sense. You who are foolish, set your hearts on getting it.

6 Listen! I have things to say that you can depend on. I open my lips to speak what is right.

7 My mouth speaks what is true. My lips hate evil.

8 All the words of my mouth are honest. None of them is twisted or sinful.

9 To those who have understanding, all my words are right.

To those who have found knowledge, they are true.

10 Choose my teaching instead of silver. Choose knowledge rather than fine gold.

11 Wisdom is worth more than rubies. Nothing you want can compare with her.

12 “I, wisdom, live together with understanding. I have knowledge and good sense.

13 To have respect for the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and bragging.

I hate evil ways and twisted words.

14 I have good sense and give good advice. I have understanding and power.

15 By me kings rule. Leaders make laws that are fair.

17 I love those who love me. Those who look for me find me.

19 My fruit is better than fine gold. My gifts are better than the finest silver.

20 I walk in ways that are honest. I take paths that are right.

22 “The Lord created me as the first of his works, before his acts of long ago.

23 I was formed a long, long time ago.

I was formed at the very beginning, when the world was created.

24 Before there were any oceans, I was born.

It was before there were springs flowing with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled in place, I was born. Before there were any hills, I was born.

26 It happened before the Lord made the world and its fields.

It was before he made the dust of the earth.

27 I was there when he set the heavens in place.

When he marked out the place where the sky meets the sea, I was there.

28 That was when he put the clouds above. It was when he fixed the ocean springs in place.

29 It was when he set limits for the sea so that the waters had to obey his command.

When the Lord marked out the foundations of the earth, I was there.

30 I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day.

I was always happy to be with him.

31 His whole world filled me with joy. I took delight in all human beings.

32 “My children, listen to me. Blessed are those who keep my ways.

33 Listen to my teaching and be wise. Don’t turn away from it.

34 Blessed are those who listen to me. They watch every day at my doors.

They wait beside my doorway.

35 Those who find me find life. They receive blessing from the Lord.
